In late August we had a nearly 100% lunar eclipse. It was quite spectacular, and it inspired me to paint a night scene with a full moon. Not an eclipse, but rather a gorgeous, bright full moon. I just finished this painting for one of my watercolor classes. I started it by studying a DAYTIME photo I took in Alaska at the tip of the Kenai Peninsula. I had to imagine what the scene might look like with a full moon rising over Kachemak Bay. It was a delightful challenge to paint this and gave me lots of great teaching opportunities to share with my students! By the way, the pink flowers in the foreground are native Fireweed plants. At the end of the Alaskan summer they are tall and lush, and I just had to include them in my painting.
